The Last Press Recipe
During April, bartenders from all over the world are submitting their variations on The Last Word cocktail over on Instagram. A classic Last Word is made of equal parts gin, green chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice, but with hundreds of variations possible, the sky is really the limit. According to Difford’s Guide, The Last Word is thought to date from immediately prior to prohibition but owes its present day popularity to being reincarnated in 2004 by Murray Stenson during his tenure at The Zig Zag Cafe in Seattle, USA.
With our literary heritage, Bar Manager Jon Niemi has adapted on the classic drink, creating a new version called The Last Press. Swapping gin for tequila, maraschino for Lillet Blanc and an addition of grapefruit, the herbaceous nature of the tequila works perfectly with the grapefruit, with a slight peppery twist.
Jon shares his recipe for The Last Press below, and for a classic Last Word, which you can use as a starting po-int to create your own drink, which you can submit @wehavethelastword.
